Responses of thermal infrared indices to drought. The H99, MS71, NC358, OH43, TX303, TZi8 and W153R maize plants were imaged daily and thermal infrared indices, including canopy temperature depression (CTDin), canopy stress index (CSIin), simplified stomatal conductance index (Tdry-Tp), temperature ratio index (TRIin), Idso's crop water stress index (ICWSIin), crop water stress index (CWSITa_in, CWSIdev_in) and TBS-Tp, were calculated using the formulas described in Table 1. The averages of the well-watered (WW) and water-deficit (WD) treatments are indicated by blue and red dashed lines, respectively. The blue and red shading represents the standard deviation around the mean. The black vertical line indicates the start of the WD treatment. The grey vertical shading indicates the days on which significant treatment differences were observed (P < 0.05, n=19)
