White pixels and black pixels represent cells and intercellular air spaces in (a, b). c Depicts the result of a XOR logical operation, where matching pixels of the two datasets from a and b are represented by black pixels, while mismatches are represented by white pixels. Red arrows highlights fluid filled intercellular spaces (caused by sample excision and manipulation), as the contrast solution can diffuse into the extracellular fluid (thus differentiating cellular and non-cellular materials). The yellow arrow highlights contrast embedded vasculature (ref to Fig. 3i for 3D representation)
