Proof of principle. a Conditions determined to be optimal for enhanced yellow fluorescent protein (eYFP) upregulation upon tunicamycin (Tm) infiltration were confirmed by measuring unfolded protein response (UPR) marker genes by qRT-PCR. b Reporter construct expression after co-infiltration with either mCherry (mCh), a UPR signaling component, IRE1a, or the UPR signaling inhibitor, HY5. In both cases, eYFP fluorescence was measured with and without Tm treatment. Error bars represent standard deviation, asterisks represent statistically significant differences (one-way ANOVA or t-test) between samples: *P ≤ 0.05, **P ≤ 0.01, and ***P ≤ 0.001, when statistical analysis was performed. n.s. not significant
