Elicitation of early A. thaliana defence response genes by infiltrating the bacterial peptide flg22: a To provide a strong stress stimulus we used syringe infiltration of either 500 nM flg22 or, as a control, water on a small area of the abaxial side of a leaf (square-1). 1 h after infiltration we dissected 4 squares of a lateral leaf section with square-1 being the infiltration spot, square-2 and square-4 untreated, non-vascular leaf tissue and square-3 as midvein.
