Calculation principle of height maps and statistics. In a first step, 3D points (points_3D) are projected to xy-plane (points_proj). Then, for each ROI (pixels for height maps) the contained points_proj are determined. Then, the z-coordinates of points in 3D which correspond to the ROI are known and can finally be used for further processing or statistical evaluation
