Abbreviations are according to acronyms found in the text: AAD – Arbitrarily amplified DNA markers, including AFLP, ISSR, RAPD, and other modified but similar methods mentioned in the text; CDM – conserved DNA based markers, including CDDP, PBA, TBP, ITP (all modified methods are cited in the text); TEM – transposable element based markers including IRAP, REMAP, ISAP, iPBS and SSAP. RGM – resistance-gene based markers (RGAP), NBS-profiling; RBM – RNA-based markers, iSNAP, EST- and cDNA- based markers; TFM – targeted fingerprinting markers (DALP, PAAP, SRAP, TRAP, CoRAP and SCoT).
