  1. Cells were initially incubated for 5 d at 22°C in either Pi-supplied or Pi-free Lamport's NM. At day 5, incubation was pursued at 22°C or 5°C and sucrose-uptake expressed as mg d-1 g-1 cell FW was measured as indicated in "Material and Methods". Values are means ± SD (n = 5).
