The effect of sodium chloride, ASA and hydrogen peroxide on rates of AL-PCD in Arabidopsis thaliana root hairs. Five day old seedlings of Arabidopsis thaliana were treated subjected to treatment with NaCl, ASA and H2O2 and then scored for AL-PCD 24 hr later. Root hairs showing retraction and condensation of the cytoplasm and no FDA staining were deemed to have undergone AL-PCD. Those root hairs showing neither FDA staining nor retraction of the cytoplasm, were scored as necrotic. Rates of AL-PCD or Total Cell Death (TCD) (TCD = necrotic + AL-PCD) were plotted. Error bars = standard error of n = 3 replicates.
