Activation by VrCBF1 and VrCBF4 on promoters with nucleotide variations around the DRE sequence (in italics). M1 = DRE: TACCGAC AT, M2 = CRT: TGCCGAC AT, M3: GACCGAC AT, M4: TACCGAC TT, M5: GACCGAC AA, M6: GACCGAC TC. The M7 CRT variant (TGAAGACAT) was included as a negative reporter control, whereas mixtures without a CBF were included as a negative effector control. Error bars represent the standard deviation. Statistical analysis was performed on the set of no CBF, VrCBF1 and VrCBF4 data separately and significantly different activation values (ANOVA p < 0.05) are indicated by different letters. Similar results were obtained in two other independent experiments.
